Hot Rubber In The Bulls Front Office

The Bulls front office should be under a telescope, if not now then very soon if things don’t change.

They signed Derrick Rose to a 94 million dollar contract in 2012, which you really can’t fault because it was fresh after his MVP season. He gets injured and misses nearly two full seasons. Sources have said that there were times that he was able to play, but chose not to. Basically getting paid to sit on the bench and watch his team compete, and watch Jimmy Bulter emerge into a star. The Bulls have went through a plethora of point guards including Nate Robinson, D.J. Augstin, and Aaron Brooks, while reaching the playoffs each year under Tom Tibbs.

They signed Pau Gasol in the summer of 2015, in hopes of knocking off the Cleveland Cavaliers featuring LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. Pau Gasol was not enough. Then they fired head coach Tom Thibbs, who had the Bulls a top 5 defensive team every season. Then they hired rookie head coach Fred Holberg.

The summer of 2016 they signed Rajon Rondo and an aging Dwayne Wade. Two credible veterans and champions, but they have a history of injuries, and neither player spreads the floor, which has always been a concern in Chicago. Not to mention, they’re both ball dominate guards. Oh, I forgot, Jimmy Butler is also on that team. One of the main reasons why they release Derrick Rose was to give the team to Jimmy Butler as the franchise player.

The team is mediocre, they’re fighting just to stay in the playoff picture, there are chemistry and locker room issues. Rondo, Butler, and Wade have publicly spoken out to the media about their inputs on the teams’ mindset and thoughts. Now it seems as if it is Dwayne Wade and Jimmy Butler against the entire team, because the younger players have said that they wish that those two would practice more, and Rondo basically questioned their leadership.

The team is exactly where most experts and journalists predicted they would be. Fighting for a final playoff position. They are not a super team, since that seems to have became the narrative with every team that puts together former all-stars.

If the Bulls wish to have any hopes of improving for the future they should trade both Wade and Rondo for younger athletic players and build around Jimmy Butler and 2015 and 2016 draft picks Doug Mcdermott and Denzel Valentine. Both players are younger, and decent shooters from the perimeter.

Jimmy Butler is in his prime and he’s not getting any younger. It would be a crime to waste a talent like that.
